The trainers at Matthew Roberts Stables are passionate about training horses and introducing youth and adult riders to the world of show horses. For over 20 years, we have developed horse and rider teams at this location, producing numerous Regional and National Champions.
As a team, Matthew, Jolene and Luis enjoy sharing their extensive experience with riders of all ages to help them achieve their unique goals. Whether you are interested in proper horsemanship, equitation, and pleasure riding, or aim to compete at the World Championships, we have the expertise to guide you there.

Professional Experience and Expertise
Matthew Roberts is a respected figure in the Morgan and Saddlebred industries, with over 25 years of dedicated service. He is recognized for his talent in introducing new riders and owners to the show horse community, consistently creating a welcoming environment for all. Matthew excels in developing amateur and juvenile teams across all divisions, nurturing growth and excellence among participants. 
Career Beginnings and Development

Matthew began his riding career under the guidance of Kim Nelson at Windchase Farm. Kim was renowned for his proficiency with Saddlebreds and versatility across various breeds. Together, Matthew and Kim transitioned to work for KAABA Arabians in the late 1980s, where Matthew’s knowledge and show experience with Arabians expanded further.Misdee and Dedee Wrigley provided Matthew with opportunities to continue honing his skills. Misdee’s special interest in Saddlebreds inspired Matthew’s growing passion for the breed. He subsequently accepted a position with Jack and Brenda Nevitt at Emeral Hills Farm, a pivotal step that allowed him to develop his expertise with Saddlebreds. Matthew’s reputation grew, and he began acquiring clients of his own, eventually becoming the head trainer at Windchase Farm. This experience paved the way for him to become the owner and operator of Matthew Roberts Stables, a world-class boarding and training facility in Cave Creek, Arizona. His leadership and commitment to excellence have made the facility a prominent destination for horse enthusiasts.
Versatility and Training Accomplishments
Matthew’s adaptability as a young rider continues to influence his approach today. He embraces the challenge of training a diverse range of breeds, including American Saddlebreds, Hackney Ponies, Friesians, Morgans, and Arabians. His expertise has contributed to the training and instruction of horses and riders who have achieved success at the Regional, National, and World Champion levels.

Professional Affiliations and Contributions
Beyond training and judging, Matthew is an active member and board member of several esteemed organizations, including USEF, ASHA, AMHA, ASAA, and UPHA. As the current president of the ASAA board, he organizes two annual shows. The Carousel Charity Horse Show, known as the largest multi-breed horse show on the West Coast, highlights Matthew’s continued commitment to promoting the show horse industry.

Jolene Galvin-Yerckie: A Leader in the Show Horse Community
Early Life and Introduction to Riding
Jolene Galvin-Yerckie was raised in western Massachusetts, where her passion for horses began at an early age. She started riding when she was just two years old and entered the world of competitive showing by the age of three. Throughout her youth, Jolene actively participated in the New England Morgan show circuit, competing successfully in Saddle Seat Equitation and Pleasure Divisions.
Education and Collegiate Achievements
Jolene pursued higher education at the University of Massachusetts, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Equine Management from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from the Isenberg School of Management. She was an accomplished member of the University of Massachusetts Equestrian Team, competing both over fences and on the flat. During her college years, Jolene obtained her Instructor’s License and began teaching at the University. In the summer of 2002, she established the first Equine Clinic at the University of Massachusetts, catering to both children and adults.
Professional Experience
Today, Jolene is a licensed judge with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the Equine Sports Council (ESC), officiating in the Morgan, Saddlebred, Hackney, Roadster, and Equitation Divisions. She has served as the lead instructor at Matthew Roberts Stables for over twenty years, where she has played a pivotal role in developing many of the stable’s top junior riders. Her students have consistently achieved prestigious titles at the Morgan, Arabian, and Saddlebred World Championships. Jolene is passionate about coaching beginner riders and takes great pride in watching them grow into accomplished equine competitors. Her teaching philosophy centers on imparting essential horsemanship skills, both in and out of the saddle, while ensuring that enjoyment remains a core aspect of her program.
Leadership and Community Involvement
Jolene is a dedicated leader within the equine community. She is a member of the American Morgan Horse Association Youth Committee, serves as Vice President of the Arizona Saddlebred Horse Association, and participates on the Arizona Morgan Horse Association committee. Additionally, she holds the position of President for UPHA Chapter 1 and serves on the USEF Saddle Seat Equitation Committee.
Personal Life
​
Jolene resides in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband, Dain, her son, Xavier, and her stepson, Xander. Outside of the barn, she enjoys spending quality time with her family.
